I have been a photography enthusiast for about twelve years now. In my early years I was mostly interested in photographing the landscapes of my homes in north Wales and Dublin, looking at the diversity and beauty of the countryside, focusing on water and flora and fauna. I found myself shooting all the time wherever I went and I became interested in the social networks of my friends and family, looking at the diversity of personalities in my circle of friends. I decided to go to college at the age of twenty two, although this is considered quite late for most people I did not know what I wanted to do before this time and I wanted to be sure of my preferred career path before I went in to higher education. I studied multimedia, focusing mainly in photography and video. There I received the highest mark ever given in a photography module at that college. Passing my course achieved me a placement at De Montfort University where I studied photography and video production. I found myself working mostly on the ideas of movement, colour and light looking at exposure, speed and timing. I made quite a few pieces that focused on these areas. A lot of them were extensions of my continuing work on circus skills, which I have been working on since I was about fourteen, using fire and coloured lights to create long exposure images and montage. I also became interested in fashion photography whilst in university. I was commissioned to produce work for some of the fashion students and found it both interesting and engaging. I also found it very helpful as it gave me an insight in to a type of photography that I had not been acquainted with before. I also became very interested in stop motion whilst at De Montfort, such as using props and people to create short movies with photographs. I have also tried my hand at as many different types of genres as I can whilst in university, including portrait, lenticular, montage and abstract photography. Most of the art I make is very visual and about the aesthetics and the look of the picture, rather than the story or theme. I would like to make work that someone would want to put up in their home and appreciate as well as work that could be shown in a gallery. I like working and keeping myself motivated as find that I get very bored if I have nothing to do, so I always have a project on the go.
