'Wonderland':

This is an interiors project originally based on the concept of 'Wonderland'; imagination and dreams. This created a response which rejected things like the 'rat race' as the eclectic imagery is intended to be a mixture of thoughts and dreams that break the monotony of the day. An example of this would be people at work procrastinating about holidays and wanting to escape. Sometimes events and objects cannot be remembered in full detail, this informed coordinate designs of abstract, geometric and fragmented imagery. Presenting the idea that little fragments put together creates a bigger picture.
At first, visual research was undertaken through trend research and observational drawings of eclectic imagery such as birds and keys to create a 'wonderland'. This imagery was used together to create scenes of 'wonderland'. Graphic styles of drawing were preferred as objects were enabled to have the fragmented parts added to them.
Initial research was undertaken using line drawings of the aforementioned imagery. Textures were then explored within objects, using the interior envelope patterns for further fragmentation.
Wall hangings and samples mainly consisted of placements and the idea of making a scene of 'wonderland'. Warped frames were used to give them a more interesting effect as it is only imagination.
The context of the project was for interiors but the final results have proven to be quite versatile. The styles and the imagery could also potentially fit into the current cards, wrap, stationary and possibly the fashion markets.

I have a passion for colour and drawing. I am always looking at new colour trends and how I could use them in new projects, this is a key feature of my work. Over the past three years, I have devloped a hand drawn graphic style that which can be translated onto fabrics and have a commercial edge. The hand drawn effect allows digitally printed fabrics to have a screen printed feel, as well as the choice of fabrics enhancing texture such as linens and rough silks.I am inspired by 1950s textile designs for their graphic qualities and texture, to which texture is another very important aspect to my work.
