1. Hi Wilmer, can we start by you telling us a little bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m an illustrator from Central America. I’m a dreamer and I’m usually busy drawing happy things, listening to happy music and drinking good coffee.

2. Your style of illustration has changed somewhat from previous years work, was this, a conscious decision to go in a new direction?

I’m glad you’ve noticed and asked about it. I think I’m a changing person, I don’t like staying static in a same thing for too much time. That’s one of the reasons.  On the other hand, I often used to feel limited with my old style and technique, as I was more like a digital painter, my style used to be shaped by features that were attributed to digital techniques, and that is something that used to frustrate me when it was time to take my work to non-digital media and that somehow made my work to lose consistency.  So I decided to step forward and start being more spontaneous and simplify things, to turn my work into something that is more consistent, flexible, and more according with my current views of life, art and everything.  It wasn’t an easy decision but it was inevitable and necessary.

3. Which other illustrator do you look at for inspiration?

There are a lot: Mike Perry, Jon Burgerman, Matt Lyon, Muxxi, Julia Pott, Tad Carpenter, Uberkraaft, Bjron Rune Lie, Aaron Miller and the list goes on.

4. What projects have you been involved with recently, and what do you have install for the future?

I’m working on my first book in collaboration with a friend, it’s going to be published this month in my city, but we hope to find a way to make a second edition in the near future to spread it out of our country. Then I’ll be working in a couple collaboration projects in the next months.  If things go good after, I would like to move out of my country and settle in somewhere else where I can get more openness and flexibility for my work.

You can see more of Wilmer’s work on his UBD Network Portfolio, Website  and Twitter page of course!
